A small to medium brown‑red to purple‑tinged Telamonia‑like cortinarius, notable for its strong, unpleasant acetylene‑like odour, violet to reddish‑mauve young lamellae, and white stipe with diffuse whitish zones. Common in Nothofagus forest, often fasciculate.

Cap: 2.5–6 cm diam.; dry, hygrophanous. Shape rounded with flattened apex to expanded, often sinuous. Colour brown‑red washed with purple to chestnut brown, sometimes more yellow‑brown with age. Surface glabrous to innately fibrillose. Margin often frosted or white‑stained, ± striate, later uplifted.
Lamellae: Violet to reddish‑mauve when young. Moderately crowded (L = 60, l = 2). Attachment narrowly emarginate. Edges slightly serrulate, concolorous.
Stipe: 3-5 x 0.5-1.2 cm; cylindrical to slightly clavate. Colour white, becoming dirty whitish toward base. Surface zoned and marbled with diffuse white bands. Veil and cortina white, with a violet tinge, fugacious.
Context: Pale brown‑grey, violet‑tinged when young.
Odour/taste: Odour very strong, unpleasant, reminiscent of acetylene with a rotting‑vegetable component. Taste similar to odour.
