Pileus: 25-50 mm diam., obtusely rounded when young, later expanded, and in age often slightly upturned. Surface viscid, weakly or not hygrophanous. Colour warm yellow‑brown with a red‑brown tinge on the disc; surface innate‑fibrillose, often with pale yellow veil patches adhering to the cap.
Lamellae: greyish‑violet when young, fairly crowded, becoming paler with age.
Stipe: 25-55 x 6-13 mm, dry, with a distinct marginate bulb. Colour violaceous, becoming yellow‑brown with age; young bulbs often with a yellowish coating on the margin. Apex violet.
Veil: pale yellow to grey‑yellow, fairly copious; cortina not observed in the type material.
Context: white, marbled violet, becoming yellow‑brown then red‑brown in dried material.
Odour/taste: Odour none. Taste distinctly bitter.
