A robust, brilliant yellow Dermocybe-like cortinarius, common in Nothofagus forests across a wide ecological range. Distinguished by its bright yellow to yellow-brown pileus, yellow to mustard lamellae, fusoid to bulbous stipe with yellow veil belts, bitter taste, and nearly smooth spores with only minute apical asperulae.

Cap: Up to 60 (-80) mm diam.; hemispherical to convex, centre broadly umbonate, campanulate, or flat‑expanded, sometimes subdepressed at maturity. Margin inrolled when young. Colour brilliant yellow, becoming yellow‑brown, especially over the disc. Surface dry, not hygrophanous, not striate; minutely to coarsely innate‑fibrillose or subsquamulose when dry. Young specimens show yellow fibrillose veil remnants at the margin.
Lamellae: Crowded, emarginate, sometimes decurrent with a short tooth. Colour golden yellow to mustard yellow to brown‑yellow with age. Edges entire, concolorous.
Stipe: Up to 80 x 30 mm; fusoid to bulbous, often with a root‑like base, rarely cylindrical. Colour yellow, becoming yellow‑brown in older specimens. Surface dry; below the cortina are 1-3 persistent membranous yellow to yellow‑brown veil belts. Solid when young, becoming hollow. Usually single, rarely cespitose.
Cortina: Yellow, forming persistent membranous belts on the stipe.
Context: Yellow to orange‑yellow.
Odour/taste: Odour none, tast bitter.
