A small soot-brown, velvety, concave species with dark grey-brown gills and subglobose 5-7-angled spores; in mossy forest margins.

Pileus: 10-25 mm diam., distinctly concave to subumbilicate even when young. Colour dark brown to soot-brown, densely covered with concolorous or grey-brown velvety fibrils or small radial scales. Surface dry, non-striate, non‑hygrophanous.
Lamellae: (L 6-10, l 7) broadly adnate to subdecurrent, distant, dark grey-brown with no pink tinge; edges concolorous.
Stipe: 15-30 x 1-2 mm, cylindrical or tapering toward the base, concolorous with pileus, with white hyphal weft at base. Surface longitudinally fibrillose, dry, fistulose.
Context: brown.
Odour/taste: not distinctive.
