A small, hygrophanous sooty‑scaled Laccaria forming gregarious to caespitose clusters beneath Nothofagus. Caps are strongly convex when young, later plano‑convex, often radially sulcate at the margins, with a minutely squarrose centre and finely squamulose margins that give a dark, velutinate, almost soot‑black appearance over a fawn background with faint violaceous tints.

Cap: 5-35 mm diam.; strongly convex when young, becoming convex to plano-convex at maturity. Hygrophanous, non-viscid, often radially sulcate at the margins. Centre minutely squarrose, with finely squamulose margins giving a sooty or velutinate appearance. Background colour fawn with faint violaceous tints; scales and squamules dark brown to brownish-black.
Gills: Adnexed to adnate, distant, intermixed, thick, to 5 mm deep. Colour pallid violaceous when young, turning buff with age; glaucous.
Stipe: 3-6 cm long, 3-6 mm diam.; ± equal or tapering apically. Tough, dry, hollow; finely roughened, especially toward apex; longitudinally fibrillose. Colour pallid violaceous when young, becoming pallid reddish-brown to buff from base upward, finally entirely buff except for violaceous tints at extreme apex. Flesh concolorous with exterior. Basal mycelium pallid violaceous.
Context: Pileus context thin, pallid violaceous, becoming fawn at maturity.
Odour/tast: Not distinctive.
