A bright yellow waxgill with a distinct umbo, glutinous membranaceous cap, and yellow to light orange‑yellow ventricose gills whose edges bear a grey gelatinous thread formed by gelatinised cheilocystidia. The radially splitting, strongly striate margin and viscid fibrillose stipe make it readily recognisable.

Pileus: 25-50 mm, convex when young, later convex‑umbonate or umbonate‑depressed; umbo always distinct; golden yellow to deep yellow, fading toward the striated margin; radially splitting; membranaceous; glutinous, glabrous.
Lamellae: adnexed or almost free; ventricose; yellow to light orange‑yellow; edge with grey gelatinous thread.
Stipe: 35-60 x 5-7 mm, cylindric; concolorous with pileus or paler; whitish‑grey toward base; viscid, longitudinally fibrillose; hollow; single.
Context: orange-yellow in pileus, otherwise yellow; not blackening.
Odour/tast: not distinctive.
