A diverse family of brown‑spored agarics, ranging from small moss‑dwelling species to robust woodland mushrooms, united by brown to rusty‑brown spore prints, smooth to ornamented spores, and a shared evolutionary origin within the stropharioid clade of Agaricales. Members include saprotrophs, ectomycorrhizal symbionts, and species with psychoactive compounds, making this one of the most ecologically and morphologically varied families in the New Zealand agaric flora.
Galerina is a genus of small saprotrophic agarics having a bell-shaped cap, and gills attached to a long and slender cartilaginous stem with ornamented brown spores. Many of which are toxic and are occasionally confused with hallucinogenic species of Psilocybe.

New Zealand hosts several native and introduced species, including P. subaeruginosa, P. makarorae, and the northern endemic Psilocybe aucklandiae.
A small genus of secotioid to agaricoid forest fungi characterised by their strongly incurved pileus margin, distinct lamellae, and fibrillose veil remnants. Endemic to New Zealand, Tympanella occupies a morphological space between gilled agarics and pouch-like secotioid forms, but always retains true lamellae, separating it from fully sequestrate genera.
